10-year old elephant found dead in forest

Erode: A 10-year old male elephant was found dead in the Bargur forest in the district, forest officials here said on Sunday.

The carcass of the elephant was found in Elachipalayam area on Saturday when a team of forest personnel carried out a search after locals of a forest fringe village complained of foul smell, they said.

A veterinary doctor who conducted an autopsy said the elephant had died of some ailment and had not consumed any solid food for the past few days.

The body of the elephant was buried in the area itself.
