Kerala CM visits Karunanidhi
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) : Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called on Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi in the Kauvery Hospital on Thursday.
Expressing his optimism about the DMK chief's health, Vijayan said,"He (Karunanidhi) has immense willpower. His condition is improving." Vijayan also met Karunanidhi's son MK Stalin and his daughter Kanimozhi at the Kauvery Hospital where the five-time chief minister is admitted.
Executive Director of the Kauvery Hospital Aravindaran Selvaraj in an official statement on July 31 said that an extended period of hospitalisation would be necessary due to age-related overall decline in the Dravidian leader's general health, altered liver functions and hematological parameters.
The statement further read that Karunanidhi continued to maintain his vital signs with active medical support. The DMK chief was previously admitted in the Kauvery Hospital in December 2016 after he complained of breathing difficulties.
He had undergone a tracheostomy, the procedure to enable supply of more oxygen into the lungs. He has been inactive in political maneuvering since then, allowing his son MK Stalin to take over as the party working president.
There has been a series of high level visits after Karunanidhi was admitted into the hospital.
