Afghan national arrested for peddling drugs worth 4 crore

New Delhi: A 36-year-old Afghan national has been arrested for allegedly peddling drugs worth Rs 4 crore in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar, police said on Friday. Two kilograms of fine quality heroin was seized from the foreign national, they said. 

The accused, identified as Mohammad Nadir Khadim, used to visit India on medical visa and stayed in Malviya Nagar, said Rajiv Ranjan, Additional Commissioner of Police (crime). 

On July 24, police had received information that Khadim would come near Bhagat Singh Park in Malviya Nagar to supply heroin to a customer. 

Acting on the tip-off, the police conducted a raid in the region and subsequently, the accused was apprehended, he said. 

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he was suffering from Hepatitis B for the last 12 years and used to visit India for treatment on a medical visa. 

In 2016, he visited India for the first time for his treatment, police said. He visited the country again in February this year and left after his treatment. 

On June 21, when the accused visited India, he came in contact with a fellow Afghan national, Mustafa, who lived in Lajpat Nagar, they said.

The police said the accused was lured into the drug peddling business by Mustafa after Khadim told him about his illness and the huge expenses incurred by him for his treatment. 

Efforts are on to trace Mustafa, they added.
