New Delhi: Delhi Police South East district on Saturday digitised all the 'Malkhanas' across its 13 police stations.

Malkhana is a room for keeping seized arms and ammunition. Delhi police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik launched ‘e-Malkhana project’ of South East District at a program held at police station Sarita Vihar complex here.

The Commissioner of Police also launched an ‘e-Malkhana Manual’ prepared by South-East District which is aimed at demonstrating the step by step process of handholding for police stations which may wish to replicate the project.

“The innovative system adopted consists of both software and physical upgradation of malkhanas. Details of the case property are first entered into the software, followed by uploading of its photograph.

The case property is packed in a cardboard box to prevent damage, and a unique bar code is generated which is pasted on the box.

“The box is then placed on to a specific almirah or rack whose details are entered in the software.

This makes location of the case property easier by simply entering details of the case property in the software module.

The software also allows the details of any case property being visible at the simple click of a button,” a release said.
