4 drug peddlers arrested with poppy
Jammu: Four drug peddlers were arrested on Friday and over 14 kg of poppy was seized in Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Police team intercepted a car at Lakhanpur in Kathua district and seized 13.5 kg of poppy from the vehicle, in which three persons coming from Kashmir were smuggling narcotic consignment to Punjab, a police officer said.
Police arrested all the three accused and registered a case against them, he said, adding that they were identified as Inderjeet Singh, Baljeet Kumar and Gurjeet Singh, all resident of Hoshiarpur (Punjab). Further investigation into the case is underway, he said.
This is the second poppy seizure made by the Kathua police in two consecutive days. In another incident, police intercepted on Friday one person during patrolling on suspicious grounds in Kothey area of Samba district, he said. During frisking, 1 kg and 100 g of poppy was recovered from him, he said.
The accused person has been identified as Harnam Dass of Vijaypur (Samba). He was arrested on the spot and contraband was also seized from him, he said.
A case has been registered in the Vijaypur Police Station and investigation is underway, the officer said.
