Early polls if ECI gives nod: CEO

​Hyderabad: Close on the heels of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s plan to go for early elections, Telangana State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Saturday issued a statement that the elections will be conducted early if the competent authority - Election Commission of India (ECI) takes a considered view for declaring dates for early conduct of general elections to Legislative Assembly and Parliament. 

The official statement from Telangana Chief Electoral Officer assumed significance following the ample indications given by KCR his readiness for early elections in the state. CEO Rajat Kumar said, in an official statement, that the ECI has given a schedule for preparation of electoral rolls which will be completed by January 1, 2019 and the same was already informed to public on Friday. 

The official said, “it is informed that if ECI, which is competent authority, takes a considered view for declaring dates for early conduct of general elections to Legislative Assembly and Parliament, the elections will be conducted accordingly.”
