Commissioner responds to public complains by conducting surprise inspection

MADURAI: On Friday the commissioner conducted a surprise inspection in ward number 8 Thathaneri Aruldoss Puram in zone one of the Madurai corporation because of the growing complains registered by the public.

Members of the Thathaneri, Packianathapuram, Ashok Nagar Residents Welfare Association, submitted a petition to the commissioner at the grievance day held for the zone on September 4. The grievances consisting of lack of water supply at Padmanabhapuram, Ashok Nagar West and East for over a week, block in the underground drainage system, sewage stagnation on the streets, lack of street lights and road facilities.

During the inspection it was found that the water supply had been affected because the pipe had been damaged during UGD works in Padmanabhapuram. The workers were directed to complete the work instantly and ensure water supply soon. He also told the officials to repair the RO plant that was damaged and bring it for public use.

However, he took note of the fact that the sewage was flowing on the road in Thanatheri Indira Nagar 5th street because it was a low-lying road and asked the officials to lift the UGD system and ensure proper drainage facilities. Officials were also told to make necessary arrangements to ensure proper lighting along the Vaigai river bank in the places where the Ganesha idols are to be immersed.
