Hyderabad: Noted senior journalist and writerr Karan Thapar has said that AICC president Rahul Gandhi alone will not give tough fight to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the next general elections. He asserted an alliance with a bunch of major anti-BJP parties needs to be formed to face the BJP.

Participating in Meet the Press conducted by Press Club, Hyderabad here on Saturday, Karan Thapar observed that Modi is still considered as strong leader and Rahul would have to put more energies to defeat the saffron party with the help of strong regional party leaders like Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati, Mulayam Singh Yadav and others.

In the wake of fast-changing political developments and the issues haunting ruling and opposition parties at national level, the senior journalist, however, said that it will take some more time to arrive at a conclusion on the winning prospects of the parties in the next elections.

Karan said that the media role in influencing the winning prospects of the parties is significant. He wanted media to play a watchdog role and create awareness among the voters the importance of their vote power. He said that the journalists should take line on every mainstream political party and analyse its role in the development of states and the country.
