BENGALURU: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder of journalist activist Gauri Lankesh has arrested a Maharashtra-based bike mechanic for allegedly providing a motorcycle to her killers.

Vasudev Suryavamshi, who had been earlier arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation detectives in connection with rationalist Narendra Dabholkar’s murder, was brought to Bengaluru on a body warrant and produced before the court, which remanded him in 15-day SIT custody.

Suryavamshi is the 16th accused to be detained in the Gauri case.Sources said the motorcycle, which was used by the killers was found with Sharad Kalaskar, one of the accused in Dabholkar case, and further probe revealed that it was not his.

Kalaskar informed cops that it was given to him by a mechanic, but he was not aware of his name.

The diary of Amol Kale, a prime accused arrested in Gauri case, finally led police to Suryavamshi.

Suryavamshi was an active member of a pro-Hindu organization in Maharashtra for eight years. He stole the motorcycle and supplied to them to his associates.
