NEW DELHI: The protest was included with nationwide stir against the ‘purge’ in the premier investigating agency. Continuing to claim that Modi government divested CBI director Alok Verma of his powers fearing an inquiry into the Rafale deal, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi Friday led a protest march to the CBI headquarters and courted arrest.

“The truth will come out,” rahul said, adding that removing the CBI director will not impact the facts in the fighter jet purchase. “Every institution in India is being ruined by the PM,” he said, repeating his new attack line that the “chowkidar” has committed a theft and profited industrialist Anil Ambani in the form of offset contract in Rafale deal.

Rahul Gandhi demanded instant reinstatement of Verma as the CBI chief and an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Flanked by senior leaders Ahmed Patel and Ashok Gehlot as well as allies TMC's Nadimul Haque, Loktantrik Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav and CPI’s D Raja, the Congress chief led a march of party workers from Dayal Singh college to the CBI headquarters down the road amid heavy police presence.

He then addressed the gathering outside the CGO complex atop a truck, before court arrest.Rahul said Congress and the opposition would go on to raise the Rafale deal.

“Our demand is to reinstate the CBI director...The Prime Minister should tender an apology to the nation for destroying the image of the premier investigating agency,” he added.

Asked about the SC ordering a CVC probe into the argument in CBI, Rahul Gandhi said, “It is a Supreme Court judgment. That is a procedure that is carrying on.

I do not want to comment on that but what I will say is that the PM acted against the director of the CBI as a result of panic, as a result of fear because he has helped Anil Ambani with Rs 30,000 crore business.”

Congress welcomed the court order, with spokesman Randeep Surjewala saying, “Truth prevails in Supreme Court. Modi government’s sinister attempt to capture CBI through lackeys falls flat.

A slap in the face of tyrants who wanted to pin the last nail in CBI’s independence. CVC can’t act as Modi government’s pawn but would be supervised by a SC judge to act fairly.”rahul said.
