4,000 cops, 20 drones to keep vigil in Narmada for the inauguration of Statue of Unity

A thick security cover has been shed around Narmada district as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on Wednesday to review the Statue of Unity at Kevadiya Colony. Police are already on discomfited due to the agitation by a group of tribals led by leader Chhotu Vasava who claim to be affected badly by the project. The district has been witnessing agitations and minor incidents of violence due to the protests.With thousands of tribals joining the distress, police have tough task on hand for ensuring that no trouble occurs during the unveiling of the statue. “We have begun monitoring the areas that fall on the border of Narmada district. The idea is to not just prevent any trouble by the agitators but also ensure that they don’t manage to come near the venue or enter it,” said a senior police official.

“Every vehicle heading towards Rajpipla is being checked thoroughly. We are looking for trouble-makers who may create ruckus near the venue. Police stations on border areas have also been alerted,” the official added.

A tight circle of security consisting of one additional DG, one IG, five superintendents of police (SP), 30 DySPs, 67 police inspectors, 317 police sub-inspectors and 28 mounted police force has been present around the venue. Six bomb disposal squads too will be deployed.Nearly 20 drones hovered around the venue and adjacent areas for aerial surveillance. The agitators, however, have announced a bandh on Wednesday.
