BMCRL states reinforcement steel procured from reputed firms
Bengaluru: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMCL) to allay fears in the public eye stated that all the reinforcement steel used in the construction of Metro-related structures was procured from reputed companies and not from any re-rolling companies on Tuesday in a press release by B.L. Yashavanth Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer. He further added, “ Chemical Analysis test is being carried out on reinforcement steel as per the code and provisions found to be within permissible limits”. BMCRL had also clarified on this issue in 2009 after state government’s Task Force found rusting on reinforcement bars.
BMCRL had come under suspicion after a minor aberration in girder alignment following a honeycomb concreting defect (hollow spaces in precast concrete) was detected in a viaduct beam above pier 155 near Trinity station last week. BMRCl clarified that all processes during infrastructure construction were as per design standards.
BMCRL also quoted the Task Forces' observation in 2009: “ The casting of segments for viaducts was as per the standard practice using shutter vibrators and concrete with a reasonably good slump. The quality control tests for the constituents and finished concrete were satisfactory.”
