3 nabbed for supplying weapons to criminals

New Delhi: Three men have been arrested near Laxmi Nagar in Delhi for allegedly supplying pistols to criminals in the northern states of the country, police said on Thursday. 

Aslam (36), Sukhvinder Singh (30) and Rupesh Sharma (34), reportedly members of an Uttar Pradesh-based gang supplied weapons in parts of UP, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, they said. 

The arrests were made on Wednesday. Aslam was spotted in Laxmi Nagar area with a bag and after some time, when two men arrived and received pistols from him, they were nabbed, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East)Jasmeet Singh said. 

During interrogation, Aslam, who had been in jail a number of times, told police that he came in contact with weapon manufacturers in Munger in Bihar and Meerut in UP, and started supplying weapons to criminals, the police officer said.

Arms supplier held, over 100 pistols seized 

A 30-year-old illegal arms supplier was arrested in Delhi, and ten illegal pistols were recovered from his possession, the Delhi Police said on Thursday. 

Ramzan, a resident of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh procured the illegal firearms from Umarti village in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh, they said.  

Based on a tip off, a trap was laid near DND flyover on Outer Ring Road on Wednesday where the accused had come to deliver a consignment of illegal arms, P S Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said.  

At his instance, 97 semi-automatic pistols, to be supplied in Mewat region of UP, Haryana and other areas, were seized from a car on the Mehrauli-Badarpur road, the police said.  

A case was registered against Ramzan and investigations are on, a police officer said.
