Congress leads anti-Telangana alliance

Update: 2018-11-09 05:30 IST

The Congress government was responsible for the forced marriage of Andhra Pradesh with Telangana in 1956. It took around 60 years for the well deserving divorce. However, in the process, over 369 people died in police firing ordered by an incumbent Congress State government in 1969.

Over 2,000 martyrs ended their lives through painful suicides. Two generations of people of Telangana region lost equitable opportunities. Telangana farmers and youth suffered discrimination in irrigation area and employment.

After impinging heavy pain and distress on Telangana region, the Congress party, for its political expediency, moved Telangana State Bill with no majority in both the houses and plotted a conspiracy to defeat the Bill by throwing the blame on the BJP. However, it was the BJP's selfless political commitment which ensured the Bill win in both Houses.

It is the BJP which has constitutionally made Telangana State possible. the Congress historically played selfish vote bank politics with this region.

The Congress is resorting to similar politics like in 1956 by importing the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its chief Chandrababu Naidu again into Telangana politics. What the Congress is doing is an unforgivable betrayal to the people of Telangana and Telangana State.

Telangana leaders in the Congress should reflect on what their party in Delhi is scheming for 2019 elections, by selling out their Telangana unit to Chandrababu Naidu. This alliance has zero interest of the Telangana people and has a clear conspiracy to force Telangana into a forced marriage all over again with an imported party from Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress is clearly leading an anti-Telangana Alliance in the Assembly elections ahead. It has sold itself to Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP politically for its national needs in the general elections in 2019. Naidu is brokering alliances for the Congress across the country with his long-time political connections from the NDA.

Earlier, his intervention in Karnataka Assembly elections, trips to Chennai and other south bastions and his initiatives to drive south India political parties into the arms of the UPA highlights his new agenda at the national level. His re-entry into Telangana by piggybacking over the Congress party is a tactical move to establish himself in at least two States before 2019 elections.

In fact, Chandrababu Naidu has almost become a franchise owner of the Congress in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State with his iron grip over the day-to-day functioning of the Congress party. His ability to fund and competence to get lion’s share of the Congress seats through seat sharing has driven even the Congress president Uttam Reddy to Naidu’s guest house in Delhi. Such is the hold of Naidu on the Congress today.

While it is a very remote possibility, given a hypothetical situation where the Congress-led alliance gets majority seats to form the government, who will actually run the Telangana government? There are no prizes for guessing. Chandrababu Naidu will certainly be a de facto Chief Minister in this scenario. Will Telangana’s interests be protected under such a government? Certainly not possible.

People of Telangana should be very careful to ensure this kind of a scenario doesn't arise after these elections. The Congress in its quest to survive is trying to destroy the spirit of self-governance of Telangana. The spirit of statehood achieved after thousands of sacrifices is now under threat.

The Congress is leading an anti-Telangana alliance in these elections with Chandrababu Naidu as it's poster boy. This risk they are taking exposes the desperation and plight of the Congress party.

It is a certainty that people of Telangana will teach an unforgettable lesson to the Congress party in these elections. The nefarious alliance has exposed the Congress party’s selfish and unethical underbelly.
