Tata’s gift to hockey takes-off today
Jamshedpur: A new chapter will open up for Indian hockey here on Friday. In a major boost to the sport, Tata Trusts and Tata Steel will unveil their ambitious carved state-of-the-art Naval Tata Hockey Academy (NTHA) here.
Once it gets down to business, they hope to provide top-grade players from the Jharkhand vicinity.The world-class high performance residential hockey training facility for 14-to-16 year-old players will become functional after its inauguration by Ratan N Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts on Friday. March 2 is celebrated by the famed group as Founder’s Day.
Incidentally, it has been named in honour of Naval H Tata, who held enviable positions like President of the All India Council of Sports (AICS), President of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) and Vice-Chairman of International Hockey Federation (FIH).
The organisers are aiming to revitalise hockey in Jharkhand and the tribal belt by producing at least five internationals from the region in the next ten years.
To make it qualitatively better option, the Academy is equipped with FIH Global artificial turf, will have proven high-performance foreign coaches, nutritionists, physical and mental trainers.
