Bannister passes away

London: Roger Bannister, the British athlete famed as the first man in history to run the four-minute mile, has died at the age of 88. Bannister, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2011, died at his home in Oxford.
Bannister set his record time of three minutes and 59.4 seconds at the Iffley Road sports ground in Oxford on May 6, 1954. Bannister later became an eminent neurologist. No female athlete has ever cracked the four-minute mile.
