TS girl Smriti Bhasin topples top seed

Hyderabad: On a day when seedings went topsy-turvy thanks to a couple of inspired players from Telangana State, women top seed and men second seed were given marching orders in the quarterfinals by unheralded opponents in the TSTA AITA Ranking Tennis Tournament Rs50K Men and Women week at SATS Tennis Complex here on Wednesday. 

The biggest flutter was caused by Telangana girl Smriti Bhasin, who bounced back from a first set loss to oust top seeded Pratibha Prasad Narayan. Her State-mate eighth seed Ajay Prithvik defeated second seed Krishna Teja Ankam to enter the men semifinals. 

Results: Quarterfinals-Men singles: Prithvi Sekhar (1 TN) bt Sivadeep Kosaraju (6 AP) 6-2,6-4; Theyjo J Oges (TN) bt Kavin Masilamani (TN) 7-6(2),6-3; B Sai Saran Reddy (AP) bt Hevanth V Kumar (TS) 6-4,7-5; Ajay Prithvik (8 TS) bt Krishna Teja Ankam (2 TS) 4-6,6-3,6-4; 

Women singles: Smriti Bhasin (TS) bt Prathiba Prasad Narayan (1 KA) 4-6,6-1,6-2; Sahaja Yamalapally (TS) bt Ganeshi Aniyaa (MP) 6-3,6-1; C Sravya Shivani (TS) bt Kalva Likhitha (TS) 6-2,6-4; Sunskruti Damera (TS) bt Y Sai Dedeepya (2 TS) 7-6,(1),2-1 (conceded).
