Ashmita ousts Uttejitha to take women’s crown

Hyderabad: Assam’s Ashmita Chaliha, seeded 16, caused a major upset when she put paid to the aspirations of third seeded Sai Uttejitha Rao Ch from Andhra Pradesh in three games to annex the women singles title in the Yonex Sunrise All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament-2018 at Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy here on Sunday.

An equally pulsating result was produced by the unseeded duo of Krishna Prasad G and Dhruv Kapila by toppling the top seeded combination of Arun George and Sanyam Shukla to take the men doubles title with relative ease.

Meanwhile, local contender Siril Varma mustered enough resources to rally from a first game loss to oust Sourabh Varma (PET) 18-21, 21-16, 21-8 to lift the men singles title.
