Deelip Kumar takes honours : Senior Multiclass Sailing Championship

Hyderabad: It was double glory for Deelip Kumar of EMESA as he ended the deserving winner of the coveted Secunderabad Sailing Club Rolling Trophy for overall winner without discard in Laser Radial Rig and the Laser Radial open trophy for overall winner because of his spectacular mastery over the waters during the Senior Multiclass Sailing Championship that culminated on a grand note at the Hussainsagar Lake here on Sunday.

Held traditionally as part of Hyderabad Sailing Week, the event, which marks the launch of the season, was jointly hosted by EME Sailing Association, Secunderabad Sailing Club and Laser Class Association of India.

The weather conditions and wind speed made it tough for the sailors and perhaps that is what made the challenge that much gruelling.

At an impressive function, prizes were given away by State Governor ESL Narasimhan. Lieutenant General Paramjit Singh, Commodore, EME Sailing Association, who earlier presented a bouquet to Narasimhan, praised the sailors for the high standard of sailing they had set in while displaying the best of competitive spirit.  displayed by all participants.

The toppers included Master Rishab Nayar of YCH who took home the Laser 4.7 open Under-18 trophy and Act Fiber Laser 4.7 Rolling Trophy;  his teammate Juhi Desai who won the Laser 4.7 (Girls) Under-18 trophy. Laser Radial Women Trophy for overall winner in women category went to Ramaya Sarvanan of AYN. 

Laser Standard Open trophy for overall winner in Laser Standard, the ‘Katari Bowl’ for maximum guns in Laser Standard Rig was won by Mohit Saini of AYN.

Late Lieutenant Commander Kelly S Rao trophy for overall winner without discard in Laser Standard Rig was won by Gitesh of AYN.
