Aakanksha upsets Thi Bao

Hyderabad: Indian contender Aakanksha Hagawane created a major upset in the second round when she defeated third seeded WGM Hoang Thi Bao Tram of Vietnam.  

This follows the stupendous first round win posted by Nandidhaa of India against top seeded Mongolian Munguntuul Batkhuyag in the AICF International Women Grandmaster Chess Tournament at NITHM campus in Gachibowli here on Friday. 

Local girl Prathyusha Bodda defeated Hoang Thi Bao Tram of Vietnam. Important results: Round two: Nakhbayeva Guliskhan (KAZ) 2 bt Babiy Olga (UKR) 0.5, Vo Thi Kim Phung (VIE) 0 lost to Prudnykova Olga (UKR) 0.5, Pratyusha Bodda (IND) 1 Lost to Mahalakshmi M (IND) 1, Aakanksha Hagawane (IND) 2 bt Hoang Thi Bao Tram (VIE) 0,  Munguntuul Batkhuyag (MGL) 1 bt Monnisha GK (IND) 0, Chitlange Sakshi (IND) 0.5 drew with Nandhidhaa P V (IND) 1.5; 

Round one: Chitlange Sakshi 0 lost to Nakhbayeva Guliskhan 1, Nandhidhaa PV 1 bt Munguntuul Batkhuyag 0, Monnisha GK 0 lost to Aakanksha Hagawane 1, Hoang Thi Bao Tram 0 lost to Pratyusha Bodda 1, Mahalakshmi M 0 lost to Vo Thi Kim Phung 1, Prudnykova Olga 0.5 drew with Babiy Olga 0.5.
