French Open: PV Sindhu defeats Beiwen Zhang
The world number 3 PV Sindhu entered the second round of French Open after defeating Beiwen Zhang.
In the next round, Sindhu will take on Japan's Sayaka Sato.
After three consecutive losses, Sindhu took just 34 minutes to thrash Zhang 21-17, 21-8. Sindhu was in total command from the beginning of the match. She maintained the same pulse even after the break. With this win, the Rio Olympic silver medallist retaliated her loss at the hands of Zhang in the opening round of the Denmark Open, last week.
After the match, Sindhu said, "I am happy to beat a difficult player like Zhang. Last week at the Denmark Open I made a lot of mistakes. Today I was determined to give my 100% but still, I made mistakes in the first game. But towards the end of the game, I was cautious and played well. I was a tough first game but the second was a bit easy,”
Meanwhile, the Indian men's doubles pair comprising Arjun MR and Shlok Ramachandran crashed out of the tournament after going down 14-21, 17-21 to Chinese pair of Li Junhui and Liu Yunchen in the first round.
Siana Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth will play their first-round matches on Wednesday.
