SGFI National Ball Badminton Tourney begins

​Nellore: District Education Department initiated School Games Federation of India (SGFI) National Ball badminton Tourney 2018-19 in the city here on Monday. The three-day sports event commenced in the city at ACSR Sports Complex. 948 Players from 16 states are participating in the tournament in various categories such as under-14, 17 and 19.

Ministers P Narayana and Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy inaugurated the Ball badminton Tournament. Speaking at the meeting, Narayana said that Telugu Desam government has been encouraging sports in the state. Government is also providing house sites, employment to players in the state, he added. He also explained that they are constructing a city for sports in the new capital region. Narayana also informed that works have been taken up for an international sports stadium at Mangalagiri. He said that ball badminton game was started in 1856 in Thanjavur in the country.
