One of the most effective ways to change the look of your home is by buying new carpets to improve the look and feel of any room in your house. These days one is spoilt for choice, from Persian carpets to synthetic ones. Make sure that the colour and style you choose matches the walls and the rest of your home décor.

A carpet can provide cushioning for your feet and make your home look luxurious. There are many different kinds available these days. Carpets are made with a variety of synthetic and natural fibres, but the four most common materials are nylon, polyester, polypropylene, and wool.

Nylon:
This is soft, resistant to stains and abrasion and best of all very durable. The fibres can be cleaned by heavy-duty steam-cleaning. Nylon carpets are the most popular.

Polyester:
These carpets do not fade and have more vibrant colours than other carpets. For people who are allergic to fibres, this is the best choice. These are also made from recycled plastic bottles, making it good for the environment. But this fibre wears out quickly.

Polypropylene:
This can be as soft as nylon and as it is very similar to natural wool, it is often used as a synthetic wool substitute. They can stain easily and are not as tough as nylon.

Wool:
This fibre is soft, natural, luxurious and very long-lasting. But low-grade wool stains easily, while high-grade wool is expensive. A combination of wool and synthetic fibres can be the best.

Uncut Carpets:
To cover large areas, you can use uncut carpets. These are very durable, easy to clean, and resistant to stains, making these perfect for areas like corridors and entrances where people walk a lot. They do not show indentations caused by heavy furniture and footprints.

Cut Carpets:
These are soft and easy to clean but show indentations and footmarks so such carpets need to be replaced sooner.

The advantages of a carpet are many:

Reduces sounds:
This is the reason why people living in apartments like to have carpets on their floors, especially if they have young children and pets running around. Carpeted surfaces are more likely to muffle sounds. If you have a home gym or exercise room, you should carpet this area. Also, a home-theatre is an ideal place for a carpet.

Keeps your feet clean:
Wall to wall carpeting can be great for those who like to walk barefoot around the house as it keeps your feet clean.

Wide range of colours:
Carpets come in such a wide range of colours and patterns that you can transform your home to suit your personality.

Covers up stains:
If there are stubborn stains on your floor, the best way to cover them up is to roll a carpet over this area or even buy a small rug.
