Up close & personal with Vijay
Movies and their dialogues have always inspired the film buff inside us. This stands true for south sensation Vijay Devarakonda as well. The superstar, on the third season of Signature Masterclass, hosted by Viu in a big reveal discusses how the cult ‘Sabka badla lega Faizal’ dialogue had a crucial part of play in the release of ‘Pelli Choopulu’.
When asked about if he expected ‘Pelli Choopulu’ to win National awards, Vijay narrated the hard times he had to face to see the movie release. He said, “I was not even sure if the movie will be released or not. Winning the National awards seemed farfetched. It was a battle to make that film. We took the script to a whole bunch of people. The director Tharun (Bhascker Dhaassyam) and I used to be so frustrated that we used to tell each other the dialogue from ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ – “Sabka badla lega Faizal’’. From the moment I decided on the script with Tharun, it took nine months to go to sets and an additional six months to get it released.”
Even after taking it to all the mainstream producers, the movie hadn’t seen the light of day. He confesses animatedly, “We made the film, we were ready and then we didn’t know how to release it. Tharun was getting disappointed. To which I said, ‘it’s not bad, they did not get it perhaps’. After a whole series of rejections, it was Madhura Sridhar and Suresh Babu taking it up was no less than a boon. They gave it a proper release and that film did whatever it did. We just wanted the film to be released and watched by people.”
