The diva of elegance & grace

Update: 2019-03-03 05:30 IST

Beautiful, talented, elegant and gorgeous Sridevi was all of these and more. A year has passed since her untimely demise, but we still have her in our hearts like the goddess of elegance and grace. Sridevi was a natural actor and a true fashion icon, she loved to be on top of fashion trends both on and off screen, her style and incredible sense of fashion is something that will live on forever.

The legacy Sridevi left behind as an actor and fashion icon knows no bounds. The reigning queen always looked at her stunning self, whether she went out for a brunch with friends and family or on a red-carpet event. Sridevi has simply made us fall in love with her, time and again. Here’s looking back at the most iconic looks that made her a style icon that she is.

Sridevi cast a mesmerising spell on her fans with each look that she created on screen. Her iconic look of a vengeance-seeking, slithering snake in human form, dressed in a shiny ivory lehenga with a matching choli and a dupatta from the song ‘Main teri dushman, dushman tu mera’ in the film ‘Nagina’ to a boho-inspired look in ‘Khuda Gawah’ with heavy kohled eyes and her bushy hair with braids. Her glittering gold look as ‘Miss Hawa Hawai’ with fruity headgear and eccentric costumes to her trademark permed hair in ‘Mr. India’ transformed her into an actor who made praiseworthy fashion choices.

The movie ‘Himmatwala’ sealed Sridevi’s position as Indian cinema's most important leading ladies and style icon. She confidently danced around painted pots in the song ‘Naino mein sapna’, while sporting some very heavy makeup, sparkling jewellery dressed in dazzling Amrapali-themed outfits. Only Sridevi with her elegant, secured and poised nature could pull off the loud outfits on the silver screen.

She gave us one of the most seductive sari moments in Indian cinema history when she wore a blue sheer sari in the song ‘Kate nahin katte' and from that moment on the simple plain chiffon sari became a look synonymous with femininity. The look was recreated in Yash Chopra's ‘Chandni’ in a yellow sari with a sleeveless blouse and a simple pearl necklace became a fashion trend and is till date referred to as 'The Chandni Look'.

In ‘Laadla’ she portrayed an ambitious, career-oriented businesswoman and gave us a lesson on power dressing while wearing pencil dresses, sheer tops, and pant-suits. While in ‘Judaai’ she played the role of a middle-class homemaker who wore ordinary cotton sarees and later transformed into a rich socialite who only wore best clothes in town. Sridevi looked beautiful, elegant, convincing and could effortlessly pull off the sarees throughout the film.

In ‘Chaalbaaz’ she competently essayed the double role of the sweet, innocent and vulnerable Anju who sported only Indian attires while at the same time acing the western looks as the beer-swigging and knife-wielding Manju. Her 'raincoat with a matching umbrella' look in the song ‘Na Jane Kahan Se’ from the same film is unforgettable.  She looked adorable with the bangs, the ribbons, and even the velvet overalls.

Sridevi recreated magic once again with her simplicity and grace in ‘English Vinglish’. The floral prints, cotton sarees and teaming it with handbags she still managed to look poised and refined. The minimalist look that Sridevi carried in this film was so relatable and elegant that it became one of the reasons Indian women relate to her character.

Sridevi’s style is only a part of the brilliant person that she was and her legacy will live on as the most stylish and versatile actors of all time and that she is a star, and will remain one forever in all our hearts.
