Instagram is working on a donation sticker
HIGHLIGHTS
Instagram is experimenting on a potential donation sticker for its Stories feature
Enables users to start fundraisers for their favourite non-profits
Similar to Facebook fundraising and donation tools for charity or personal reasons
For its Stories feature Instagram is testing on a potential donation sticker, as Jane Manchun Wong App researcher spotted. The feature looks similar to Facebook’s fundraising and donation tools for charity or personal reasons. It seems users will be able to search through a list of nonprofits to link directly to the sticker based on Wong’s screenshot.
Since 2015, Facebook has had fundraising tools, only recently it dropped fees related to those donations. It offers other payment processing tools also for Marketplace and Messenger. Instagram has been experimenting with what payments would look like on the platform, over the past few years, but it has so far only released test features to enable users to book spa appointments and restaurant reservations. As per reports, Instagram is also working on a standalone shopping app, so it isn’t out of the realm of possibility for payment functionalities to also exist on Stories.
As accustomed, Facebook and Instagram test feature regularly, and not all of them make it to a full rollout. So if you’re planning to use Instagram Stories as a way to solicit donations, for now, you’ll have to stick with the classic “link in bio” to direct people to send you or donation money.
