Amazon begins to lay off employees in India, more to follow
Amazon is laying off a small section of its workforce in India with nearly 60 employees from its recruitment team was let off last week. This move is being said to be a part of a global restructuring and more employees are likely to be asked to leave following annual appraisals.
Confirming the same, Amazon said that there is a need to organise their teams and use the resources optimally which has impacted a small number of roles within the company. However, the company spokesperson said that they are providing complete support to the impacted employees, including the option of relevant internal postings and outplacement services.
The company nevertheless is continuing its recruitment for multiple roles and currently has 4,000 job openings in the country.
Earlier in February, ET reported regarding Amazon’s move to lay off hundreds of employees at its Seattle headquarters and global operations which were likely to have an impact on the business in India.
This was said to be a part of a global reorganisation as the company look to strategically establish resources into high-growth and priority areas to further drive the consumer momentum in the future.
