Artificial moon to be launched by Chinese Space Company till 2020

Beijing: Did you ever imagine of a moon that could replace the street lights and enlighten the whole city? Well, Chengdu Aerospace Science and Technology Microelectronics System Research Institute Company (CASC) a Chinese space company, set to make this.

CASC is all set to make an artificial moon that can lit up the city during nights and can actually spread eight times brighter than the real moon.

According to a report by a Chinese newspaper, The People's Daily, CASC tend to build a replica of moon till 2020, which will actually be a satellite, which can put up to light an area between 6 and 50 miles wide. This artificial moon would swap the street lights in the city of Chengdu. Wu Chunfeng, the CASC chairman, says the testing has already started and they plan to launch the fake moon in 2020.

According to a study performed in 2016 excessive use of street lights and artificial lamps is resulting in a dark place and causing light pollution. The study also shows that more than 80% of the world and 99% of people in the US and Europe live in light-polluted areas

The International Dark-Sky Association is also trying to work towards providing natural night sky by offering dark sky designations to towns, parks, reserves, sanctuaries, and other open areas.

The light pollution is affecting human health and wildlife severely. Human beings are getting prone to diseases like cancer, depression and obesity.  Plants life cycle also get disrupted. 

On the whole, these changes are affecting the entire ecosystem.
