Amazon is going big on its India expansion plans and now wants to ramp up hiring across different roles and levels in both non-technical and technical positions.

Currently, Amazon India has 2,000 job openings across its business divisions. The e-commerce firm was in the news for handing pink slips to several hundred employees at its US headquarters earlier this year. However, the company is on a hiring spree in India. Globally, Amazon has a headcount of 6 lakh employees, out of which 50,000 are in India, making it Amazon’s second largest workforce after the US.

The open job positions are for roles such as software development engineer, program manager - business quality, vendor operations associate, manager of risk investigation, quality assurance technician for Amazon Appstore, Business Analyst, Associate Risk Merchandiser, and senior program manager for Amazon Pay.

The geographic distribution of open job positions indicate that Bengaluru has the highest job openings with 587 vacancies. Hyderabad has nearly 374 open roles. The new recruits will work across Amazon’s business units including Amazon.com, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon.in, and device divisions.

Nearly 40% of Amazon’s total workforce are female tech professionals. Now the company is looking to hire people from different religion, disability, diverse background, and ethnicity, thereby indicating the company’s focus on gender diversity and inclusion.

Amazon has stepped up its efforts to impart skills to fresh graduates, students, and women on digital technologies. The company runs a number of initiatives like I want to code, Amazon Campus Mentoring, Pinnacle, and Amazon Women in Technology, etc.
