Adobe bets on Sensei to drive the next major chapter in its journey
Adobe, which is best known for image editor Photoshop and Portable Document Format (PDF), is betting on its cloud AI and machine learning framework Adobe Sensei to drive the next major chapter in the company's journey.
Introduced in 2016, Sensei currently powers all intelligent features across Adobe's products and the company has around 100 Sensei powered capabilities across its various cloud businesses at present.
"With Adobe Sensei, we are placing artificial intelligence at the center of various customer experiences, helping our customers tackle complex experience challenges such as image matching across millions of images, understanding the meaning and sentiment of documents, and finely targeting important audience segments, among many others" said Shanmugh Natarajan, managing director and vice president – products, Adobe India.
For instance, Sensei is powering Adobe Scan app’s text recognition feature that helps customers turn physical business cards into shareable digital contacts on iOS and Android devices. It is also allowing marketers to understand data and create more effective experiences using Adobe Experience Cloud.
Natarajan said they now aim to make Sensei available to its ecosystem of partners, independent software vendors (ISVs) and developers, who can then build custom solutions on top of them to extend the functionality of these products to customers.
India playing a key role in Adobe R&D
India is also contributing substantially for Adobe’s R&D efforts across its cloud businesses, with over a third of its total engineering headcount based out of the country, Natarajan said.
The software giant currently has three big cloud businesses - its flagship Creative Cloud that offers a set of applications and services to creative professionals, Experience Cloud that provides marketing, analytics, advertising, and commerce solutions to enterprises and Document Cloud that provides solutions for companies to digitize their document workflows.
"A large of our company's innovation efforts for Document Cloud and Experience Cloud are led by our India engineering team. We undertake the creation, development, and support for over 28 products including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop Elements. Adobe India also operates the Print and Publishing business unit for the company" Natarajan said.
"Our Big Data Experience Lab, located in Bengaluru, helps us develop technologies relevant to our software products for consumers, creative professionals, developers, and enterprises. This lab also helps our product teams with competencies in data science, analytics, natural language processing, machine learning and related areas at the Adobe Research" he added.
In February last year, Adobe had also announced plans of setting up an advanced artificial intelligence lab in Hyderabad.
