WhatsApp is launching its latest verification feature for all beta users. The authentication feature is a part of other new features which WhatsApp will be starting to allow their beta users after opening the first official public beta program. The latest unlock feature is available in the new 2.19.20.19 beta update published through TestFlight beta program. The new update now adds fingerprint lock to the WhatsApp application on the iPhone. The new beta feature rollout was spotted by WABetainfo.

Here's how you can start using new WhatsApp Screen Lock feature

For the iPhone X or above users, FaceID unlock is available. However, for iPhone or below users TouchID or passcode is available. In the WhatsApp settings, if users choose Screen Lock, they can choose to start the authentication feature for their devices.

Beginning the feature will anyhow allow users to reply to the received messages straight away from the locked screen notifications and can also answer the WhatsApp calls without any verification.

The user will have to configure the TouchID or FaceID unlock feature on WhatsApp. After the configuration is done, users will have to shut down and restart the app again. After that, the user has to verify their identity in order to use WhatsApp. If the iPhone TouchID fails, users can also log in through passcode. For iPhone X and above the FaceID also works.

On WhatsApp when the biometric unlock security feature is enabled, the preview snapshot of the app will go empty and will not show anything. In terms of privacy, the fingerprint and the face unlock data are encrypted in the iPhone. WhatsApp will not receive your security data as it is managed on phone-level access and extraction of this information is impossible. So we can say that the fingerprint unlock feature for WhatsApp is safe to use.
