Drunk driver hits scooty; woman dead
2 pillion riders injured in Jubilee Hills accident
Hyderabad: In a ghastly accident, a woman driving a scooty died and her two pillion riders sustained grievous injuries when one Vishnu Vardhan, driving his Tata Hexa in an inebriated condition, knocked their two-wheeler down on Road No. 10 Jubilee Hills in the early hours of Sunday.
The mishap occurred when Vishnu Vardhan hit the scooty from behind, impact of which tossed the three two-wheeler riders into air. They fell on the road with a thud. The driver of the two-wheeler, 33-year-old Mastani, died while on the way to hospital, while the remaining two riders – Anusha Reddy and Anusha alias Priya are under treatment at Apollo Hospital.
According to police, Vishnu Vardhan, after taking several drinks at a pub in Jubilee Hills was on his way home in Himayatnagar when the mishap occurred. The locals, who saw the pathetic condition in which the victims lay on the road, called the ambulance and sent them to the hospital.
Anusha Reddy sustained a severe head injury and was operated up on.
Though her condition is stable, she is not out of danger while that of the third girl Anusha, the condition is out of danger. Vishnu Vardhan is the owner of a playschool in Himayatnagar.
The three victims were on their way to Mastani’s house in Srinagar Colony when the tragedy took place. Mastani and Anusha Reddy went to Anusha’s house in Khairatabad and all the three were on their way to Mastani’s house in Srinagar Colony.
Vishnu Vardhan, after knocking down the scooty, tried to clear away form he scene and in his hurry hit a road divider. Meanwhile, the police arrived on the scene and arrested him.
The doctors at the Osmania General Hospital performed post mortem on Mastani’s body. In a similar accident in 2016, a youth driving a car in drunken state, hit another car killing a 10-year-old girl and two of her family members in the city.
