Harassed by classmates for being dark skinned, girl ends life in Medak district

Depressed over being harassed by her classmates, who allegedly taunted her for being dark skinned, a 14-year-old committed suicide in Medak district.

The girl, M Lavanya set herself on fire three days ago after being called dark and ugly by two of her classmates.

Lavanya, a Class IX student at Pragati High School in Medak had previously slit her wrist after being bullied the first time with her teachers and principal calling her stupid for the act.

Later on January 2, she set herself on fire using kerosene and suffered 45 percent burns. While she succumbed to her injuries at the Gandhi Hospital on Monday, her dying declaration has been recorded by the police who will be taking necessary action based on the report.
