Electric crematorium inaugurated
SR Nagar: City Mayor Bonthu Rammohan inaugurated the electric crematorium provided at a cost of Rs 5 lakh at the hindu burial ground here on Tuesday. He declared that two burial grounds in each Assembly constituency under the GHMC limits would be developed on full scale. During the current fiscal year, in the first phase, burial grounds in each constituency is being developed in all respects.
The GHMC proposed Rs 20 crore in the budget for 2018-19 for development of burial grounds. So far, six electric crematoria have been restored, he said and added that electric crematoria installed at a cost of Rs 2 crore at various burial grounds remained defunct for want of proper maintenance.
Bodies of the dead orphans in Gandhi Hospital were earlier reduced to ashes at the electric crematoria. Now the practice has been stopped. He said special arrangements have been made for cremation of their bodies at a special burial ground to be set up on the outskirts of the city.
He asked engineers to take steps to remove the wild growth of bushes in the burial ground at SR Nagar. He said that the land scape in the burial ground would be developed and other amenities would be provided.
