1.8 kg club drug worth 18 lakh seized

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police late on Friday night seized 1.8 kg of GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate) also known as ‘club drug’ worth about Rs 18 lakh, while being transported from Rayalaseema to Hyderabad and to Coastal AP. Police held eight persons in two different police station limits, including Shamshabad and Rajendranagar.

According to the police, during the investigation it came to light that the gang belonging to Kadapa and Anantapur, who formed two different teams and divided the drug as 1 kg and 810 grams respectively were travelling in two different cars. On a tip-off, both the vehicles were intercepted under Shamshabad and Rajendranagar police station limits while entering the City.

“The value of seized narcotic drug (GHB) will be about Rs 250 per grams, but the drug peddlers will sell the drug between Rs 800 and Rs 1,000 per gram to the individual customers. So, the market value of the seized drug would be between Rs 14.5 lakh and 18 lakh,” said PV Padmaja, DCP Shamshabad.

During the intervening night of Friday/ Saturday, the police officials led by Shadnagar Inspector Vijay Kumar in coordination with SOT Balanagar intercepted the first vehicle on NH-44 (Kurnool-Hyderabad) under Shamshabad police station limits and held four persons along with drugs. During interrogation the accused revealed about the other team heading towards city in a different car.  

The Rajendranagar police jumped into action and intercepted the second vehicle at Aramghar crossroads and nabbed four persons along with another parcel of drugs. “GHB causes an intense rush of happy feelings (euphoria) and hallucinations. Side effects of GHB use include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and vision changes,” added the DCP. 

The other accused were identified as Pedda Yellappagari Sridhar Reddy, 35 , Mallepally Mahendar, 29, Ramagoni Amarnadh, 31, all from Simhadripuram in Kadapa district of AP, Yalampalli Lokesh, 20, a resident of Rajampet, Kadapa, AP, Kammaduri Suresh Reddy, 20, a resident of Chinakothapalli in Ananthapur District, AP, Ratnakatam Dinakar, 21, a resident of Ananthapur, AP and Gorlamandeti Nethaji, 22, a resident of Nagaram Village RR District and native of Rayachoti in Kadapa district of AP.
