After Metro Rail, mono rail connectivity to come up in Hyderabad
Following the success of Hyderabad Metro Rail, efforts are being intensified to get the mono rail on track in Hyderabad and Warangal.
Plans are already drawn to operate monorail from Kazipet to Warangal covering a distance of about 15 km.
Coming to Hyderabad, the focus is being made on having mono rail operations in places that lack Metro Rail connectivity in the city particularly to the airport in Shamshabad.
According to the requirement, Airport routes - Gachibowli to Airport and Kanchanbagh Junction are being identified.
With the traffic to airport increasing every year, the connectivity to the airport needs to also increase, hence the measures are also being taken to extend the elevated PV Narasimha Rao Expressway till Shamshabad to ease traffic flow.
With Mono Rail, it is cost-effective and the construction cost will be 30 percent lesser than the Metro rail.
The Mono-Rail project has garnered the interest of two companies - one from Switzerland to construct different corridors in Hyderabad and Warangal.
Meanwhile, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao is touring different countries to explore various possibilities for Metro Phase II in the city.
