Media role in SCCL growth lauded

Kothagudem: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) director S Chandrasekhar has underlined the need for SCCL and media working hand-in-hand to take the State and country onto the path of development. 

Addressing participants of media workshop held at Illandu Club here on Wednesday, which was organised by SCCL in association with Press Information Bureau, Chandrashekar appreciated the PIB for organising such events across the country. He called upon the media to use the Right to Information Act and strive for society’s development. He lauded the role of reporters in the media.

The SCCL official further had a special word of appreciation for coal-belt reporters for the role they played in bringing SCCL out from the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction’s purview. “Also, they played a key role in taking SCCL reforms to the employees and their families,” he noted. 

“Making use of the technological advances in media, the SCCL’s Public Relations department has been strengthened. Moreover, use of the social media is very extensive in the colliery,” he said, tracing the developments that have taken place in the department. 
Additional Director-General of PIB E Mariappan, who participated as the special guest, traced the role of PIB in taking the State and Central governments schemes to the masses.  SCCL General Manager (HRD) SVSS Ramalingeswarudu said the workshop was useful in improving the skills. 

The department of HRD was organising several training programmes to augment workers skills, he informed.  Illandu area General Manager K Lakshminarayana linked the country’s development to the sincere work of journalists, whom he felt should give priority to people’s issues over breaking sensational news. 

SCCL Public Relations Officer Mahesh, who outlined measures taken to expand activities of the PR department, said latest information was being relayed to media using WhatsApp, facebook and e-mail. He hinted at the SCCL starting its own YouTube channel. He called upon participants to give wide publicity to the Mana Singareni programme aired on T-SAT, a channel of the Government of Telangana, from 11.30 to 12 noon on Sundays and on Nipuna channel from 4.30 to 5 pm.  He called upon one and all to install the T-SAT app on their mobile phones. 

SCCL director (E&M) S Sankar, who was the chief guest at the valedictory, thanked media for taking the Colliery’s welfare and development activities into society. Earlier, PIB Deputy Director P Ratnakar welcomed the journalists. Rachana College of Journalism principal R Umamaheswara Rao, OU Journalism head of the department J Stevenson, OU professor Dr Ramakrishna, journalists from Kothagudem, Manuguru and Illandu areas took part in the workshop.
