Update: 2018-01-29 22:02 IST

Two new flyovers are all set to be constructed in order to ensure the smooth vehicular movement in the old city.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will be constructing the flyovers - one from Nalgonda crossroads to Owaisi junction and another from Aramgarh to Zoo Park.

With these routes falling under the high traffic zone category which often resulted in accidents, hence the local residents have been demanding measures to smoothen the vehicular movement.

Consultants have been roped in to study the conditions on both road stretches and suggest recommendations with a feasible alternative in a report.

A source from the GHMC stated that the flyovers have been recommended in the routes due to the scarce availability of road space amidst several religious structures.

A four-lane flyover from Nalgonda crossroads till Owaisi Junction covering a distance of about five km has been recommended in a report submitted to the civic body with a cost estimating around Rs 523 crore.

Similarly, the Aramgarh to Zoo Park route also has high prevailing traffic, hence a six-lane flyover has been recommended with a cost estimated to be about Rs 636 crore.

Both the proposals will be placed by the Municipal Corporation before the standing committee for approval. Once the nod is given, the administrative sanction would be sought from the State government.
