Medaram Jatara begins, heavy police force deployed
The four-day ‘Sammakka – Saralamma Jatara’ at Medaram has begun today with heavy security arrangements in place. Considered the biggest tribal festival across South Asia, the Jatara witnesses a huge number of devotees thronging the village to take the blessings of Goddess Sammaka-Saralamma.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has been reviewing the elaborate arrangements for the event which ends on February 3.
A heavy police force has been deployed and CCTV Cameras have been installed at various places to prevent untoward incidents.
Also, the security is being monitored with the help of drone cameras while around 300 expert swimmers have been roped in at Jampanna Vagu.
Sources inform that the tribal priest will perform special rituals to Saralamma and put the Goddess on a platform after the completion of Lunar Eclipse.
Pilgrims will offer Jaggery blocks also called as Bangaram blocks to the deities as per the tradition after the arrival of Sammakka from Chilukalagutta.
On the last day, priests will take the deities back to the forest.
