The blast which took place during the morning hours ripped off the temporary shelter where the explosives were stored. The bricks of the structure were seen scattered everywhere and a huge crater was formed at the blast site. The injured woman, whose arm was broken, was identified as Bhagvati, 36, and was immediately shifted to a private hospital. Meanwhile, the bomb squad also reached the spot to identify the material which triggered the blast and ruled out bomb or IED.
“As per the preliminary investigation, we believe that explosive material was kept in close contact with chemicals used for breaking hard material like rocks. The liquid could be in small proportion, which is yet to be traced. The blast triggered due to lack of safety measures adopted for storing it. We are verifying the permission of using or storing the material, even though they claimed to have,” said Ch Nagasai, Inspector, bomb squad, city security wing.
The bomb squad also seized 56 detonators stored for blasting rocks. The neighbourhood which houses employees of a corporate school was shocked to hear huge blast in the morning hours. Security personnel working in the neighbouring buildings immediately rushed to the spot to help the injured.
