Hundis collections Rupees 10.17 crore
Warangal: The endowments department has earned an income of Rs 10.17 crore after the completion of counting of Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jatara hundis here on Monday.The income earned this time is Rs 1.26 crore higher in comparison to the previous jatara in which Rs 8.91 crore earned by the department.
The counting of hundis began on February 6 at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Kalyana Mandapam in Hanamkonda. Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Temple executive officer T Ramesh Babu said a total of 479 hundis, of which 452 are iron hundis, 24 cloth hundis and three are ‘Vadi Biyyam’ hundis. 824 grams of gold and 47.47 kilograms of silver ornaments have been offered by devotees.Similarly, foreign currency belonging to 32 countries was also found in the hundis.
The details of the currency have been registered and it will be sent to Reserve Bank of India, which will pay the equivalent amount of Indian currency to the department, Ramesh Babu said. Nearly 175 endowment staff and Satya Sai Seva Samithi volunteers were engaged in the task of counting the hundis. The currency, coins, gold and silver ornaments have been deposited in the bank, he added.
