Dy CM briefs Prez on girls enrolment

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari briefed President Ram Nath Kovind on the steps taken by the State government to improve the enrolment of girls in the schools.

Srihari who called on the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Friday told him that the dropout percentage of girls from the schools was more prior to the formation of the new State of Telangana. As soon as the State formed, the State government had carried out a special survey in which it was found a growing trend of dropout of girls from the primary to postgraduate levels. 

To address this issue the State government established 470 Gurukul schools. Also, for the first time in the country, the State government had established 53 residential degree colleges for SC and ST girls. Srihari said the President enquired about the measures being taken to promote girl education in the State and stressed that a focused attention is needed on this issue. 

The President said it was the responsibility of the State and Central governments to take measures to improve the number of girls’ enrolment in the schools and colleges, Srihari added.
