Rachakonda police register  256 drunk driving cases

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police registered 256 drunk driving cases, besides collecting about Rs 4 lakh as fine from traffic rule violators in a span of 15 days. As part of the drive, the police also detained 156 vehicles on which more than three challans are pending. The traffic police arrested 42 persons for drunk driving. They were subsequently awarded jail terms by courts. Another 26 persons were awarded punishment to do community service, such as managing and ensuring smooth flow of traffic.

Besides the vigil on drunk driving, the traffic authorities also concentrated on overspeeding vehicles. With the help of laser guns, a total of 3,821 cases were booked on the overspeeding vehicles.

Speaking to The Hans India K Ramesh Naidu, DCP (traffic) Rachakonda, said that it was a regular task that they were undertaking in order to reduce the road accidents. “We have been conducting the vehicle checking dynamically at various locations and seizing the vehicles for violations,” the DCP said.

Eve-teasers held

Over the same period of time, the Rachakonda SHE Teams booked 30 eve-teasers, including two minors. A total of 27 cases against eve-teasers were booked and 11 amongst them were petty cases.  All the miscreants were given counselling session with the help of the professional counsellors from the Bhumika Women’s Collective (NGO). The minors were counselled by professional psychologist Dr Vasavi Samyuktha Sunki.
