Biocon (Syngene) to set R&D unit in Telangana, to generate 1500 new jobs

Hyderabad : India’s largest biopharmaceutical company Biocon, based in Bangalore will be expanding current presence in Hyderabad on APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) / Intermediates to add 500 new jobs. The company will also soon start an R&D lab of its subsidiary Syngene in Genome Valley, Telangana, which is expected to generate another 1000 high tech jobs. 

Biocon MD Kiran Mazumdar Shaw met Telangana IT & Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on the sidelines of BioAsia 2018 at HICC today. She had informed the minister about the decision of Biocon to expand their operations in Telangana, during today’s meeting. 

Minister gave an overview of the latest infrastructure that the Telangana government has been developing in the state, which include Pharma City, Medical Devices Park and Genome Valley Phase 2. Minister also informed Ms Kiran Mazumdar about the startup ecosystem and few interesting startups in the healthcare and pharma sectors. 

Appreciating the Minister, Biocon MD Kiran Mazumdar remarked that she was very impressed his visionary leadership. She opined that when the industry sees leadership like this, they are motivated to come forward and support them. 

Earlier in the day, a business delegation headed by Ms. Chutima Bunyapraphasara, Deputy Minister of Commerce, Thailand, met Minister KTR on the sidelines of BioAsia 2018. 

During the meeting, Minister explained about the state’s proactive business environment and how the state has ranked number one in Ease of Doing Business index. Minister gave an overview of various priority sectors like Pharma, Life Sciences, Aviation, Food processing etc.  Minister said that Hyderabad and Telangana are located at the centre of India with very good connectivity to various cities both within and outside the country. 

During a meeting with Meeting with Italian Consul General in Mumbai Stefania Costanza, the Minister said that the startup state of Telangana has become a role model state in attracting investments. The Consul General has informed the Minister that a delegation of Italian Chamber of Commerce will soon visit Telangana to explore business opportunities. 

THE Minister also met Terri Bresenham, CEO & President, Sustainable Healthcare Division, GE today. During today’s meeting the GE team has expressed interest to collaborate with Telangana Academy of Skill & Knowledge (TASK) in healthcare skilling. 

KTR informed the GE team that another arm of GE - the GE First Build is partnering with Telangana Government’s prestigious initiative and the country’s largest prototyping lab, T-Works.
