SC dismisses plea against project
New Delhi: A Supreme Court Bench consisting of Justice Rohington Nariman and Justice Naveen Sinha on Friday dismissed a writ petition against Kaleswaram project of Telangana state. The Bench termed the attempts of the petitioner “forum hunting” while questioning the same.
The petitioner questioned the environmental clearances accorded to the project and sought a stay on the works. The petitioner also pointed out that no relief measures had been put in place for the people affected by the submergence.
The Bench asked the petitioner why he was forum hopping. It also pointed out that the petitioner had earlier gone to the Chennai Forum and having lost his case there came back to it. "Your very intention is malicious. This does not deserve any hearing," it said dismissing the petition.
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao expressed happiness over the same and said the Congress stood exposed before the public once again. "They are doing their best to stall all projects to the detriment of the people of Telangana. They do not want any development to take place.
That is why (they are) filing cases after cases. Our government is committed to the welfare of the people and we will complete the projects as planned," he said.
