UoH reduces penalty handed over to PhD student
Hyderabad: The Executive Committee of University of Hyderabad (UoH) met here on Thursday and reduced the punishment handed over to PhD History student Kaluram Palsaniya.
According to university sources, the EC had considered the appeal made by the student and the background leading to the punishment handed over to him on account of misconduct and
indiscipline.
The student in question had been slapped a fine of Rs 30,000 besides being rusticated from the university campus, including hostels for a period of two semesters.
Modifying the earlier punishment, the EC had reduced the suspension from the academic programme for a period of 12 weeks with effect from the date of punishment earlier handed over to him. Similarly, the penalty of Rs 30,000 had been dispensed.
The EC had also suspended the punishment of rustication of the student for a period of two semesters from the date of punishment. However, he was asked to tender an apology and give an undertaking that he would not engage in any acts of misconduct and indiscipline in future, the sources said.
It was decided to make efforts to bring in reconciliation between the individuals concerned to sort out the issue. Further, the EC had decided to devise guidelines on how the university community should use social media.
Also, as the Proctorial Board had no scope and competence to look into the academic content and scope for asking specific questions in the question paper, which seemed to have provoked the student to make certain remarks on the social media.
As such, the EC had resolved that the University will examine the issue through an academic committee and to deal with it separately referring the mater to a committee of experts in the subject concerned.
