Krishna River Management Board orders release of water to TS, AP
Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Tuesday issued orders for the release of Krishna water allocated to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the month of March at the Board meeting conducted recently. The water will be used to meet drinking water and irrigation needs.
In the order, Board Member Secretary A Parmesham said 9.303 tmcft water will be released to Andhra and 24.467 tmcft to Telangana from the available water in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects.
The official said water would be released from Srisailam to Sagar projects through the right power houses to meet the demands of the two States. While drawing water, he instructed the two governments to maintain a level of 520 feet up to March 20 and 515 feet up to March 31 in the Nagarjunasagar.
The water released from Srisailam and Sagar shall be preferably through power houses so as to derive power generation benefits. In case there is no power demand or the release not as per actual requirements by the GENCO authorities, the balance water should be released through river sluices from the two projects. For the water year 2017-18, KRMB finalised 66:34 water sharing ratio for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States respectively.
