Telangana has milestones of achievements: Guv
Hyderabad: Governor ESL Narasimhan said that the last three-and-a-half years have been a rewarding period marked with several milestones of achievements.
Addressing the joint sitting of the state Assembly and Council on the first day of the budget session here on Monday, the Governor said that the government has taken up “faster economic growth with a strong focus on inclusiveness” of the neglected and deprived sections.
Though the Opposition tried to interrupt the Governor by raising slogans and throwing copies of his address at him and one of its members Komatireddy Venkata Reddy even throwing his headphones at him and in the process causing an eye injury to Legislative Council Chairman K Swamy Goud, the Governor nonetheless, continued with his address contending that the state has clocked an average annual growth of 8.6 per cent of GSDP in the three-year period from 2014-15 to 2016-17.
This is much higher than the national average of 7.5 per cent. Similarly, the state’s per-capita income stood much higher than the national per-capita income in the same period.
Narasimhan said that the farm loan waiver scheme has benefitted nearly 35.5 lakh farmers. Concerted efforts of the government yielded a record production of foodgrains of 101.29 lakh tonnes during the year 2016-17.
Free and the round-the-clock quality power supply and financial assistance extended to the non-farm activities has been taken up. In a major achievement, 96 per cent of land records were verified account wise and declared without any dispute.
Under irrigation, a new irrigation potential of 16.64 lakh created and 8.97 lakh acres of ayacut stabilised. Besides, 23 major and 13 minor irrigation projects are under progress to give a fillip to the irrigation sector.
Besides achieving significant growth in power generation, the state is poised to add another 12,931 MW capacity. Telangana stood number one with an installed capacity of 3283 MW in solar power generation, he said.
The investments flow to the state is of Rs1.18 lakh crore with approvals to 6,206 industrial units, with a direct employment potential of 4.47 lakh persons. And, 3,703 units have commenced their operations.
And, under Phase-II of T-Hub, an additional incubation space for 4,000 entrepreneurs planned.
New IT clusters at Budvel and surrounding villages proposed. Also, IT incubation centres at tier-II cities like Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, and Nizamabad are planned, the Governor said.
Successful progress in the state’s flagship programmes of Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya has received the accolades from across the country.
In the health sector, KCR KIT, payment of wage compensation to the prospective mothers has resulted in the share of institutional deliveries in public facilities rose from 33 to 49 per cent from Jan-Dec, 2017, he said.
The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Special Development Fund Act, 2017 provides a unique provision in the Act to carry forward the unspent balances to next financial year.
Similarly, for the welfare of the backward classes, the government has taken several measures to improve livelihood opportunities, support to traditional occupations, and the establishment of residential schools, education scholarships, and other welfare schemes.
He said in his speech, giving top priority to public safety and security modernisation and massive recruitment has been taken up following the reorganisation of the districts.
Narasimhan, reading out in Telugu, the Governor said that the Telugu Prapancha Mahasabhalu were organised in a grand way, highlighting the glory of Telugu language and literature. The conference was attended by nearly 8000 delegates from across the world.
