Shaadi Mubarak cheques will be handed over at the time of marriage: Minister

Hyderabad:  Backward Classes Welfare Minister Jogu Ramanna has assured that the cheques to the beneficiaries under Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi would be handed over at the time of marriage. 
 
The minister gave the assurance while replying to a query during Question Hour in Telangana Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. MLAs across the party line and complained that there was delay of over 4 to 6 months after the marriage in giving the cheques to the beneficiaries. They said that the scheme was meant for the poor parents to perform the marriage of their daughters. But due to delay, the parents were forced to take loans on huge interest. 

They said even the officials were not cooperating with the beneficiaries and cancelling their application on the pretext of not having Aadhaar Card. They said Voter ID cards were not being accepted as proof of identity. They also complained of some middlemen demanding money to approve the applications.
 
While assuring to resolve all the complaints, the Minister said that so far 2,92,465 benefitted from the scheme and an amount of Rs. 1642.02 crores as on March 13, 2018 under both the schemes.
