Telangana's debts to cross Rs. 1.80 lakh crore

Hyderabad: The debt burden of Telangana State is likely to cross Rs. 1.80 lakh crore in the year 2018-19.
 
The State Government had not only continued, but increased its borrowing year after year since 2015-16. The total outstanding debts, which were Rs. 93,115 crore in 2015-16, increased to Rs. 127,829 crore in 2016-17 and Rs. 151,133 crore in 2017-18. The government wants to borrow another Rs. 29,105 crore in 2018-19 which will increase the total burden to Rs. 180,238 crore or 21.39% of the GSDP. 

However, Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, who presented his fifth consecutive budget today, claims that the borrowings were within permissible limits.
